Threadfin Dragonfish (Echiostoma barbatum)
Dragonfish live in depths of 4500 m, far deeper than sunlight can penetrate. As a predatory mechanism for the dark waters, dragonfish have evolved bioluminescence to attract prey. The light is produced by symbiotic bacteria which colonise specialised organs on the fish.
